say basta to CO2

I've had it up to here with everyone bitching about CO2 accumulation but nobody is doing anything. Here's my proposal, which I have not put up as a blog entry yet, the closest I got I think was this one.

For bonus points, the southern sahara desert gets agribusiness.

Executive summary: huge project to pipe water to Darfur and desalinate it (with solar power, which works fine for desalination) for growing crops using drip irrigation; crops selected for biomass -- for instance maize or beets -- char the biomass as a carbon sink.

Free char for all local farmers; the char plant pays euros for biomass; excess char is granulated to match blowing sands and released into the desert, or at least released into the winds.

Problems solved:

1. famines and droughts in subsaharan africa
2. excess atmospheric CO2
3. UN needs Big Engineering things to do

Don't thank me, just build the pipeline already

and while you're at it you could design in one of those crazy "power tower" electric plants
